Winter Garden

Cold, wet weather for me means I am staying indoors and bundling up. I am a summer baby and do not enjoy being outside for long periods unless I absolutely have to.

However, I do have somewhat of a green thumb, passed down from my grandmother, and I love to garden. I was on Pinterest the other day and ran across a pin of regrowing green onions and even romaine lettuce indoors in a glass of water. Of course I had to put this one to the test.

I love green onions as a garnish to many of my dishes and am always picking up a new bunch on trips to the grocery store. Green onions are not super expensive, but if I can save a couple of dollars, I will. Also, i think this counts as a pretty cool science experiment.

A few nights ago, I cut off the root of my onions and placed in a shot glass of water. Today, you can see they are already sprouting, so cool!

Excited, to see them full grown and ready to be used :)

The picture above was taken with my Samsung Galaxy S3 and posted to my Instagram, be sure to follow @onnahandmade

Sick Plant :(

I was walking home one day and came up on the side I don't usually and this is what I found...

Ewwww!!! It has a white film on the top and white hairs hanging underneath. I figure its mildew so I have started spraying it. Hopefully it helps to clear it up soon.

On a brighter note the flowers are doing great still looking beautiful :)

Also, a big snail was just chillin' on one of the leaves so I'm hoping he/she doesn't get sick too. (I hope that's not too weird of a comment, lol!)

Sick Days :( Time Spent Crafting :)

Hi All !

I know I have been away for quite some time. Being sick and then being sick with a 3 year old in the last hot days of summer will do that to you. Now that I am almost completly healed its time to get back to business :)

As I had what felt like the flu it took me awhile to craft period, all I wanted to do was sleep :(  Then, the worst of it passed and crafting was the only thing on my mind!

I have been diving into many different projects and loving each and every one. I also finished up some goodies to be posted to my Etsy shop and then some made just for me :)

Plushies:

A cute cupcake with beads sewn on as sprinkles. Attached keyring with butterfly printed ribbon

Poptart awaiting to be sewn and stuffed. Sprinkles are made with Scribbles 3D Paints

Crochet:

I completed the Corner to Corner Afghan. It came out pretty small, more like a lap blanket (36" square) as I was just using up yarn that I had in my stash. I wound up changing the Wheat color to Charcoal and used it as a border only instead of continuing in the granny square pattern. The bottom picture shows more of the detail and a better representation of the colors.

Circular Crocheted Dishcloth/Washcloth. It has a slight ruffled edge around.

Beaded Granny Square Earrings I'm working on

Quilling:

Blank card, the first in a collection I am making.

In the garden the lettuce has been replanted and the carrots are big as ever :) Can't wait to see them!

Enjoy this Sunday!

A Long Time Away = A Long Post

Hi Everyone! Wow - August is flying by a little too quickly :)

I have been extremely busy with life and all that comes with it so I haven't really been able to post at all. And even now as I sit here I am feeling my eyes drooping so please excuse any spelling/grammar errors.

Garden

The lettuce, spinach, and carrots have completly took off. I have to apologize because we had already used some of the spinach and lettuce in a salad before I had a chance to snap an updated pix. But look how full it still is!!!

I also realized that I had never posted any of the other edibles currently growing this season:

Lemons

Black Berries

Single Orange :(

Beans

Parker

I just had to :) He was being so photogenic today

Knitting

Just finished up the baby gift today. Below is a sneak peek, I will show the full gift tommrow (fingers crossed)

New Craft Storage

I am so happy- my 20-drawer double wide storage cart just came in from Joann over the weekend. I spent about 2hrs putting it together and cleaning out a space for it. It is amazing, I finally have a place to fit all my crafing supplies and now I can actually see where I need to destash and what I do and do not have.

That is all for now - I really am tired :)
